By this point in the pregnancy, I was having a continuous stream of Braxton Hicks contractions making everyday life rather difficult. Walking, bending, stretching, working, anything really would cause my belly to tense up and force me to stop and take a pause. After taking a bath on this Sunday night, they started to come more steadily. Dad and I timed them and it was about every 15 minutes and seeming to get stronger. As we live an hour from the hospital and our last baby girl came at home accidentally, we decided to start mobilizing just in case Miss Coralie was on her way.
We packed up Ella and Audrey to a sweet neighbor's house and headed down to the hospital. Contractions were steady and painful, but not changing a lot in intensity. We checked into the hospital and they started to monitor contractions, which were getting a little more intense. But I was just barely dilating. Daddy took a picture of me laboring as the day turned to September 6 - officially Labor Day.
Then the progression just seemed to stop. So, they told me to walk. We walked around the hallways of the labor/delivery floor for 2 hours. And that kept the contractions coming, but they weren't doing anything too exciting. After several hours or walk/recheck/walk/recheck and no change in dilation . . . . they sent us home. It was a bit of a let down for us and your big sisters, but you just weren't ready yet.
After they discharged us, we decided to stay in town for awhile in case things started back up again. We had some breakfast, walked around, and drove the streets close to where Daddy's great-grandmother had lived. And right in that area we came across this sign.
We decided it was a sign that we had picked out the right name for you. Now we were ready to meet you. We just had to wait until you were ready to meet us.
