A Blanket of Winter

As you have probably noticed from my posting, no trip or plan is complete for our family without a little complication. The week before Christmas we planned to travel down to Charleston, SC to visit Grandma Lois and Grandpa Joe while the rest of California based crew (David's brother Bill, sister-in-law Brandee, and their sweet 6 year old Dylan) was visiting as well. This was actually the first time that side of the family was going to be able to meet Ella and we were very excited about all the festivities. WELL . . . . the Friday we planned on leaving home, was the fateful first ginormous snow storm to hit the East Coast. Here is how the day went a some pictures of the aftermath . . . .
8:30am - David takes me to work in Mount Airy and Ella to daycare, in case the snow is bad
10am - Snow starts in Mt Airy (our clinic has rescheduled all apts to the morning to close early)
11am - I call David say you better get down here to get us before the roads get bad
1pm - Clinic is closing and we are finishing all the last minute drop offs (you know the people who realize they will be snowed in for a few days that suddenly decide their pet who has been sick for 3 days is an emergency)
2:30pm - David finally leaves to pick us up . . . . I know, right?
3:00pm - David has picked up Ella and is stuck on the side of the road to the daycare
3:30pm - David gets the vehicle unstuck and arrives to pick me up from work.
4:00pm - We've picked up a frozen pizza for dinner and some bananas for Ella and are heading home.
4:30pm - Stuck in interstate slushy traffic during the snowstorm
5:30pm - Still stuck
6:30pm - We finally arrive home (usually takes 25 min . . . took us 3 hours)
THUS, we decided to wait out the snowstorm and leave for Charleston in the morning if the roads were fairly clear . . . 18 inches of snow later.
